Position Title: Molecular Laboratory Supervisor                              Job Status: Full-Time                                                                        Reports to: Senior Director Molecular Diagnostics & Pharmacogenetics

FLSA Status: Exempt Position

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of BS in life sciences and/or medical technology
  • Minimum of 6 years of laboratory experience as a medical technologist in a Clinical environment
  • Minimum of two years of supervisor experience directly supervising

Other laboratory personnel in a Molecular laboratory

  • ASCP certification and automation experience are a plus (but not required)

DUTIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Accessible to testing personnel at all times that testing is performed
  • Provide day-to-day supervision and oversight of the department
  • Must be on-site
  • Monitors test analyses to ensure acceptable levels of analytic performance is maintained
  • Resolve technical issues and ensure remedial actions are taken
  • Ensure results are accurate
  • Provide orientation and training of all testing personnel
  • Annual evaluation/competency of all testing personnel
  • Maintain adequate staffing
  • Perform scheduling, planning, staffing and monitoring of workflow to meet

  • Maintain adequate turnaround times
  • Support, implement, and ensure compliance
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory agencies
  • Maintain proper sample handling
  • Report concerns to a superior
  • Generate and maintain proper SOPs, lab policies, CAP proficiency testing, training and competency forms
  • Participate in supervisory training classes (when available)
  • Successfully pass any and all regulatory tests, proficiencies, etc.
  • Perform other tasks as specified by senior management
  • Inventory management and supplies organization in the lab
  • Laboratory cost calculation and capacity plan for volume increase and lab expansion

Certification and Licensure:

ASCP, AMT certification or NYS license preferred

Work Environment:

  • Environmentally controlled clinical laboratory environment
  • Fast paced environment with occasional high pressure or emergent situations
  • Frequent exposure to bodily fluids
  • Possible exposure to infectious specimens, communicable diseases, hazardous and toxic substances, and other conditions common to a laboratory environment
  • Must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as gloves or a faceshield
  • Frequent interaction with a diverse population including team members, providers, patients, regulatory and accrediting agencies, and other members of the public

Physical Demands:

  • Frequent standing, walking, grasping, carrying and speaking
  • Occasional sitting, reaching, bending and stooping
  • Lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling up to 50 pounds, with assistance if needed
  • Frequent use of computer, keyboard, copy and fax machine and phone
  • OSHA Category 1
